scotland to egypt

i have decided that it,s now or never for me to live my dream, and ride from my home in scotland to egypt , but the question is can it be done without the mega expensive carnet ? . and if i must have a carnet, any ideas on how much for a year old 650 v strom ?

There is NO chance of you getting into Egypt without a carnet. Best to phone the RAC HQ who will give you an approximate quote if you tell them the value of the bike. The insurance route is your cheapest option. Plenty of info on carnets on this site

For carnet purposes I substancially devalued the value of my bike. I ride a KTM 950 Adventure which realistically was worth about £5,500 to £6,000 when I went to Egypt. On the carnet form I listed it as worth £2,000 and the RAC didn't question it at all. My advice would be rather than asking the RAC just fill in the form and devalue the bike substancially, the bottom line is that if they RAC think your valuation is too low I am pretty sure they would pick up the phone and tell you.
