russian visa question??

hello people,i was breezing through some of the russian visa web sites and could not find any info regarding my problem.

im looking for a small bit of knowledge from any of you do gooders out there:innocent:

once you get your russian visa stamped on your passport, say in your home country(ireland in my case) how long do they give you to reach russia,or when does the use of it expire before you reach a russian border to proceed

(i have a lot of traveling planned before i eventually get to russia)

thank you.

Brian,

From memory you can only apply for your visa a maximum of 45 days before your intended entry into the country. This info. applied to us in 2011 so this may have changed (but probably not) plus we were UK citizens not Ireland.

You can work around the limit on advance issue of the Russian visa by applying for it to start earlier than you actually need it.

For example, I got my Russian multi-entry business visa issued for the period 12th February 2014 to 4th February 2015. I knew that we wouldn't be arriving in Russia until April, but the earlier date allowed me to get the application done early and have the visa issued before I departed on the trip.

I knew that I'd be out of Russia by July, so I could have applied for it to start even earlier, if Russia was further into the trip.

I had to get the 'business visa' as my route required me to enter Russia a total of three times, which isn't possible with a tourist visa. You can use a 'business visa' for purely tourism without any problems.

Hope this helps.
