Round trip air tickets needed for visas: workaround?

Being an indian citizen living in the US and hoping to fly my bike to argentina and travel across S.America, i am required to apply for visas beforehand.

Here is the rub, the officials here need round trip tickets as part of the paperwork. I obviously dont have set dates.. Short of forgery, any way buy fully refundable tickets online or have ones with flexible dates that i can adjust prior to trip?

Have you checked any of the travel or airline direct booking websites?
As far as I know, most international airlines offer fully refundable tickets,
with no or varying charges to change dates once booked.

As just one example, American, Airline Reservations And Airline Tickets From American Airlines | AA.com, displays an "Economy Flexible"
fare between Chicago->Buenos Aires, that is "refundable" with no or variable
charge to change dates.

Of course "fully refundable" is usually (much) more expensive than a non-refundable in either economy or business class.

If it's confusing or uncertain to you on the websites, call and talk to a
booking or airline agent.

good luck

The key is to buy from the airline _directly_ and double check that they are indeed fully refundable. It will be an expensive ticket and refunds can take several weeks. Done it a few times.

Aha, that is a neat little trick. I looked on Kayak and such and they had a $175 penalty for any change.
Just being flexible with the dates is sufficient for me, i dont necessarily need refunds.

Thanks a lot guys. I'll let you know what airline i will choose and the options.

Membership - help keep us going!

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.

You don't have to be a Member to come to an HU meeting, access the website, or ask questions on the HUBB. What you get for your membership contribution is our sincere gratitude, good karma and knowing that you're helping to keep the motorcycle travel dream alive. Contributing Members and Gold Members do get additional features on the HUBB. Here's a list of all the Member benefits on the HUBB.
