rough cost of insurance at russian border
 

if anyone who had do it has taken out insurance could you please tell me how much you payed and how old you are. Also are there any site on which i can sort out the insurance before i go?

I crossed over in to Russia from Crimea and got my insurance before getting on the ferry from crimea. Back in june 2004 I payed around 50 USD for 2 months the guy who sold it to me had a rate card from the insurance company so i could see all the rates. I got the certificte, a little sticker for the bike and a claims form.
The police do ask you for it together with passport, bike documents and bike import papers.

last year I bought insurance at the UA/RU border. I think it was about 100usd for 3 months, wasnt real bad. when your in no mans land (between borders) go ahead & hunt up the insurance company & buy it, otherwise you will wait in line at RU, only to be turned back to get Ins, and back to the end of the line. And those lines suck.

It depends how long you want the insurance for: I paid approx £12 for one month's cover at the Finnish-Russian border in October.

having written off a lada in Kazan with my landcruiser I can confirm that the insurance is very definately worth the paper it is written on, without it I would still be connected to the nice policemans car battery in the cellar. Don't be tempted to go without it.
