Returning the Carne de Passage
Unfortunately due to some problems I couldn't go to Middle East. I went to Turkey pass the Bosporus and the bike broke down after 150km I pass it. Even so I take a step to Middle East and I'll complete in the future.
The main reason was I've lost a lot of time (3 weeks) and money (about 1000 Pounds) for fixing the bike and I am now out of time and planned budged. I am Greece now and my broke again. I am thinking of selling it here in Greece to a garage.
My question is:
1- I did not use the Carne. Every single page is present. Even so, does my bike needs to be examined by a police and does the CdP signed by a police?
2- What sort of documents do I have to get if I sell the bike here in Greece? (Greece is a member of EU)
3- I have UK number plate and V5 documents. What shell I do with them when I sell the bike?
4- Need an urgend advise..

I can't help with any of yr questions, I'm afraid, but I wanted to commiserate with you -- I followed yr preparations via the HUBB and I know how much the trip means to you.

Can't you call the issuing agent for the carnet (automobile club?) and get their advice on cashing in the carnet?
I got my money back on my carnet issued in the UAE even though the bike has never returned because all my stamps - in & out - (Iran & Turkey) were complete. They should be able to advise you.
If you are in a country where you did not use the carnet to enter, (and this applies whether the carnet is unused or well used) it's a simple matter of just sending it back. You've lost the processing fees though, that's an up front cost and not refundable to my knowledge, though you're free to try.

Although Greek people were very helpful and lovely people, I brought the bike back to Turkey with a rescue truck. At least I can speak the language here:)
I am looking forward to have a F800GS to complete this trip sometime in the future.
I have called RAC (Paul Goven) and wrote him a dozen of e-mail. However, he is on a vacation and there is no one to help me.
My only concern is does the "Certificate of Location" page (the last page of the carne) needs to be signed by a police or custom officer in England even if I didn't use the carne?

Ozhanu, Paul at the RAC is kept very busy , he is apparently the only person in the country handling carnets.
when we sent ours back in (early this month) we didn't bother with the 'sign by police' bit since all the in & out stamps were completed. since you haven't used yours at all I can see no problem. just send it back and you should get your money returned.
The only time when there is a real need to have the certificate of location bit is if the bike was marked as in a country ( where you had an entry stamp from country X in the carnet but no exit stamp ). You then need to prove that the bike was exported ( hence the police examination ) so that there is no claim from country X against the carnet.
Since you have no entry stamp at all there is no need to prove that the bike was exported , since on paper it clearly was never imported anywhere :)
I would return the Carnet and wait for my money.
I've got a fast responce from RAC. It looks like we have another hero there who deals with CdP when Paul is not there.
As you all stated it is possible to get the deposit when the carne is not stamped.

Firstly, please can you confirm where the vehicle is now - your emails to Paul Gowen state it's in Greece but you now say Turkey.
With regards the Carnet document. Was the Carnet stamped by Turkish Customs when you entered the country ? If so, then the Certificate of Location will definitely need to be stamped by them if the vehicle is staying in that country. If not, then no stamps are required in the Carnet and it can be returned to us.
However, and you may already have this in hand, if you are going to dispose of (eg, sell or scrap) the vehicle in Turkey then you have to declare your intentions to the Turkish Customs - there may well be tax/duites to be paid.
