Reregister in UK or Canadian Carnet?

I live in the US but am a UK citizen.
Planning UK-India -NZ trip.

Is it going to be easier /cheaper for me to reregister the bike in the UK and get a carnet from the RAC -or pay the big bond for the Canadian AA Carnet?

Also are there any problems with US registration documents going through Iran?

dave.

Hi Dave

As a UK citizen, and the bike has been registered there, I'd be inclined to go with re-registering it via the RAC or AA than the CAA.

We had no difficulty registering our Canadian bike in the UK when we were residents there, of course it has to pass the MOT. Assume you have a mailing address available - relative, friend or Mailboxes Etc.!

See some of the other posts in this forum on the pros and cons of RAC vs. AA for carnet issuance. http://www.horizonsunlimited.com/ubb...ML/000084.html

On the carnet, where there is a choice between putting up a bond and insurance policy, remember you do get the bond money back, and you are earning interest on it, whereas the insurance premium is just sunk costs.

But, having said that, when we headed off originally in 1987, we had to ask my mother to post the bond for us, otherwise we wouldn't have had any money left for travelling!

Good luck, please let us know what you decide and how you go.
