Registration documents ??

Can anyone give me advice regarding the registration documents?
Here in Australia (NSW anyway) the rego is issued and valid after you pay for third party insurance.
I have the rego papers so unless you contacted the Roads and Traffic Authority in NSW you wouldn't know about the insurance.
I can't see the point in buying a years insurance for Australia when I leave two days after its due.
I have already organised green card insurance for Europe and then will buy when needed at borders.
Does anyone have any experience with this

Regards

Steve

You could probably get away without rego, although I would be more confident in Asia than in Europe. If you are getting a carnet, you will need to show that the bike has some registration. Who did you buy green card insurance from in Oz? How much was it? I'm in the UK at the moment with no insurance on my aussie registered bike, but if i can i'll buy some when i visit Australia.
Cheers,
Sean

Since the Oz insurance is not valid or required in Europe it doesn't matter. What matters is that you have a valid rego document and a valid Green Card.

As for the Carnet, you need to talk to the Oz AA to see what they require. Even if you take out insurance now to validate your rego it will probably have expired by the time you need to organize your carnet.

Does your rego document show clearly that it's not valid without a certain stamp, or how does it work?

Thanks for the reply Sean.
The rego for the bike expires 28th April and I'm shipping it on the 1st,2nd or 3rd of May so I've used my current rego to apply for the carnet, which should hopefully show up soon.
With regards to the green card insurance I actually got it from Knopf tours.Stefan was very helpful even when the Aussie banks stuffed things up, Stefan wanted paying by bank deposit which had a charge of AU$28 plus the cost of insurance 150Euros for three months, then they charged another 12.50 Euro which I didn't get told abou so Stefa didn't get the full amount I sent him. You may have better luck doing it from the UK. Knopf tours has a link on the HUBB somewhere.
Peter..From what I can tell the only thing that shows a valid or unvalid rego document is a receipt number which you can write in yourself as the rego can be done online.
I guess plan A sounds OK...I'll work out a plan B if the need arises.

Thanks again guys

Steve
