Please help: Carnet necessary to enter Mozambique?

New member here... please be patient...

My Carnet will expire soon, my European registered Land is now in SA and I am planning to move it to MOZ.
Could anybody tell me if the Carnet is mandatory in MOZ or if it is possible to get a TIP at the border?
Thank you in advance!
Cheers

Alex

I was there a bit more than a year ago, crossed into Moz from Zim and not only was the carnet not required, they wouldn't accept mine as it didn't have Moz typed on the back cover! So I had to use a TIP which was very cheap (just a couple of US$ if I remember correctly) and easy. I think it was valid for a month.

BTW, Even my Carnet does not show MOZ on the back cover...

It's one of those you have to ask for !!!

I passed into Mozambique in February this year on a Carnet but my mate didn't have moz on his carnet so was refused...

He got a TIP for $25... Don't forget 3rd insurance too, also $20 ish

If you're heading in at Tete, it's all very fast, organised and simple...

You're going to love Mozambique.. Pink Papaya hostel in Chimoio is a nice place if you can make it there after crossing the border. If you're using T4A, the campsite on there in tete doesn't exist or is closed. I camped in a hotel car park lol...

Check my blog for more mozambique info...

Ted:
Thanks for the info, I will look into your blog. Reading your posts I think we have done the same route...

Now for the stupid question:
Do you guys think that leaving SA with an expired Carnet would create a problem with the SA customs?

Thanks

Alex

Technically, they could give you a hard time but in reality they would have to check the dates closely and you are leaving the country, not entereing it. You have a pretty good chance of it not being an issue.

Well, I left my carnet with the shippers and flew home...

When I got my carnet back it wasn't even stamped out by South Africa and stamped in the wrong place by the Brits..

It seem seem to matter to anyone though...

I think you'l be alright...
