European insurance for non European vehicles

Insurance and a green card for foreign registered vehicles is available in Spain from certain agents. The Spanish organisation OFESAUTO has more specific information (in Spanish, English and French) OFESAUTO. This insurance is basically the same thing provided by ADAC in Germany and the same rules apply ie you need to apply in person, although they didn't ask to see the bike, only my documentation. The maximum coverage is 6 months, whereas ADAC provide 12 months. The insurance was also much more expensive in Spain, 80 euros for 15 days cover, 150 euros for 1 month. There is a bigger discount for 6 months cover, but it still works out about 4 times the price of ADAC insurance for 6 months coverage.
ADAC and 'seguro de frontera' in Spain were the only 2 ways i found for insuring my Australian registered bike in Europe.

Tempory import/ storage in EU.

Hi everyone,
I am a New Zealander arriving in France next week at the end of a trip across Russia and central European countries.

My intention was to store my DR650 in France for a year while I return to NZ ...then return to France to continue travels to South Africa.

I am advised a non EU registered motorcycle can only remain in an EU country for a maximum of 6 months.

Does anyone know how this storage / tourist transit time frame can be handled.
Can motorcycle be temporarily imported or should I be storing bike in another country?

Regards,
Jean

Carnet: German vs British

Does anyone know why a carnet deposit for a bike costing around £12,000 for Egypt will cost about £2,500 in Germany (not that I can do it - being a Brit) and in the UK it will cost around £96,000.

Or am I barking up the wrong tree/barking mad.

German: See page 9 section 3 of this:-
http://www.adac.de/_mm/pdf/Carnet%20...isch_18337.pdf

British:see bottom of first page:-
http://media.rac.co.uk/pdf/carnet-de...nformation.pdf

Please tell me I have this all wrong...
