Pakistan Visa on the Road for UK citizen

Hi there,

We are in the process of getting our many visas for our trip. Each one now seems to come with an added complication, and I am trying to gain some time advantage by getting maybe our Pakistan visa on the road.

We are currently waiting for our Uzbekistan visa, and next up after that is Iran. If we get our Iranian visa in a timely fashion this might not be a problem, but the chances of that are probably slim.

Before Pakistan we are going to:

France, Germany, Czech Rep, Poland, Slovakia, Hungary, Romania, Bulgaria, Turkey, Iran, Turkmenistan (visa to be got in Turkey), Uzbekistan, Tajikistan, Kyrgyzstan, Kazakhstan and China (visa to be got in Kaz).

Does anyone have any experience of getting a Pakistan visa from any of those countires?

We do have two other options:

1. Get the Pakistan visa in our second passports, but we don't know if this could cause a problem at either the Chinese or Paksitan borders
2. Getting it in London and delay our leaving date a couple of days. Always a possiblity but would seem like admitting defeat!

Any help or advise appreciated.

Cheers

I wouldn't be totally confident about getting Turkmenistan visa(s) in Turkey.

For TURkmenistan, UZB, TAJ, KYRG and KAZ (and China, since you'll have bikes), I'd think about having a word with David Berghof at Stantours.

I mention this name because I had visa dealings with him in 2004 and can warmly recommend him.

Visas

Kyrg, Kaz and Taj you no longer need any help with. We just applied by post and have all the visas (including Pamir) safely in our passports, no need for David.

We have LOI's for Iran (still in the post) and Uzbek via David at Stan Tours.

Turkmen in Turkey comes from a recommendation on the HUBB, and I have spoken to the ambasador in Turkey and he was OK with the plan. David cannot help with Turkemn Transit visa, only the tourist visa, but that is megabucks!!

Thanks anyhow

Re LOIs for any of the ex-Soviet 'stans - it may be too late now but just in case, bear in mind that although you don't always need a LOI for single entry visas any more, you DO still need one if you want double-entry. This caught me out with Kazakhstan.

Knowing how thoroughly you have planned and researched every other aspect of your trip, I trust you've checked it's OK to get a Chinese visa and arrange the entry of the vehicle through the Kaz Chinese embassy? Getting a car into China can be a very long-drawn out process, that's all.

Oooh!

Hey Mark!

Always good to see your answers :) I actually, now i have read that post remember it now. I knew something was lurking at the back of my mind, although I can't believe I missed it when I searched. Although saying that I have searched for so much now I think I am getting a bit of a dodgy skim reader.

So, looks like Pakistan in Iran could be the last piece of the jigsaw puzzle.

Do need to double check the China in Kaz situation, although their website does spell it out clearly, I am sure from others stories that these things aren't always that simple.

We are only double entering into Kyrgyzstan, and they have made their visa process significantly easier in the last few months apparently.

You going to be about in Cornwall for the party Mark? Think another HUBB regular from Porthcurno is coming ...

Pak: get it at home, if at all possible. This was my most difficult one to get on the road over a year ago and it has gotten harder, it seems.

China: you do know you need an organised tour, don't you?

CornishDaddy 13 Mar 2009 23:53

China

Yes - China is booked through an agency ...

Will defo try and get Pak in London. Did you try Iran Beddhist

Twice: first time in Istanbul, to be picked up in Ankara 14 days later. Had to wait for a couple of days in Ankara, but no problem. Didn't need a number or agency or anything.

Second time in Dubai: "Do you want it in 3 days' time or tomorrow for twice the price, sir?"

Alas, this was over a year ago and things change like the wind.

Cheers,
Peter.

Last September if coming from China you can get a 30-day Pak visa down in Sost for $90. Keep 4 US$ pp handy for the nat park office before there.

Currently: June 2009, it is impossible to get a Pakistani visa anywhere West of Tehran for a u.k citizen. (coming from other route I have no idea, possibly Inida and Nepal do give) Ankara will not give one even with a letter of non objection. Every other embassy will tell you to go back to London, however you can get one in Tehran. You will need a letter of non objection but that is very easy to get from the British embassy here in Tehran (about 50pound, then you have a short interview with the Pakistani people and if you smile you get the visa. It takes 3 days to process once granted.
