greencard insurance issue

i did use the search filed, didnt get my question answered so im posting this.



Eligibility Requirements for European insurance coverage:

• You are not a citizen of the country in which you will be travelling or living.
• You will keep US/Canadian license plates on your motorcycle
• The motorcycle to be insured is not a sports- or high performance motorcycle or over 1500cc
• You are at least 25 years of age and not over 65 years of age (Drivers over 65 MAY be eligible)
• The motorcycle to be insured is not a rental, short term lease or buyback
• You own the motorcycle to be insured
• The motorcycle is not over 20 years old or valued over $30,000."

now im planning to ship my bike from NY to Portugal. next year around april.

ill be 24 years old then and im planning to take my 2002 Honda CBR600f4i

im less then 25 and im taking a semi sport bike. its not a super sport :P

what should i do??
is there a way around??

i really dont want to take a klr or a gs, i love my f4i and i want to ride that. please help

Hi,

You don't say which insurance co. imposes these conditions. They will vary from co. to co.

You can try the following:

• Contact HU communities in Portugal and ask for help.
• Try to contact the Portuguese Auto Club.
• Contact the insurance co. from which you got the conditions and ask them. They may insure your bike for an additional premium.
• Contact the Italian co. in the other topic where you posted your question.
• Contact ARISA. They insure pretty much any vehicle, but it's expensive now.

You might find it easier to contact Stefan at
Green Card
an 'agent' for ADAC (German autoclub) Green Card, which is underwritten by ARISA.

I don't think either Italians or ARISA/ADAC charge extra for <25 yrs. old, but Eligio or Stefan will tell you quickly.

which notes "surcharge for ages 21-24"

That might mean MotorcycleExpress can also write it for you but with a surcharge.

whereas arisa for the same thing charges 105

lets see, doing some more research if knopf offer more than arisa ill go with them otherwise arisa is the one.

My understanding of the matter is that Knopf Tours re-sells Arisa with a surcharge, but may be easier to deal with.

Clicking on the link to "Eligio" shows a premium table that is considerably less than Arisa since they recently multiplied their premiums.

Yes, Arisa/ ADAC charges 105 Euros per first month.

Knopf's website reads:
"Each 30 days are Euro $145,...."
Note that this website notation may be a typo-error.
If he really means 145 Euros, then yes that's a significant surcharge above Arisa/ ADAC. If he means 145 USDollars, that's a minor surcharge, after currency conversion.
You might want to verify with Knopf, or maybe you already have.

No particular brief one way or the other.
Some report good experience with Arisa direct.
At one time, Arisa required that payment be made only by direct bank account wire transfer to their Lux bank account (not by credit card or airmailed paper check).
If that's still the case, direct wire transfer fee from USA personal bank account to EU bank accounts can be expensive for the USA originator (~$25-50).

Personal experience is that Knopf gives good service.
