Obtaining a Carnet de Passages in Nepal

Hi! I'm new to the Hubb and excited about how much information can be found here. :)

I'm flying to Nepal end of november and my plan is to buy a bike and ride it home to Europe. I will most likely buy the bike in Pokhara at Rick's and Moniek's "Hearts and Tears Motorcycle Club" (Hearts & Tears Motorcycle Club Pokhara, Nepal :: Bike Adventures In The Himalayas). They were recommended to me by several people. I already contacted them via email and Rick promised to help me with the paperwork that is necessary when buying the bike. So that part seems to be fine.

What makes me worry is, that I don't find any up to date information whether it is possible to get a Carnet de Passage for a Nepali registerd bike in Nepal. I definitely need the carnet as I am planning to go through Pakistan, Iran and so on..
I checked with the German "ADAC" and the Austrian "OEAMTC" if they would issue one, but they wouldn't.

I did my homework and checked the general info page about Carnets here on the HUBB and found this:
Quote:

Regarding Enfields and riding one home (wherever that may be) from India - just go to Nepal, it is perfectly legal to buy a bike and get a carnet for a Nepalese Enfield. They are somewhat more expensive in Nepal, but at least it's legally possible.
Is it really possible at the moment? Anyone got some experience or first hand information about obtaining a Carnet in Nepal.

Many thanks in advance!
Lukas

carnet

Hi guys,

How did it work out with the carnet the passage? i'm doing the same trip this year and i've been researching about this. It all seems quite confusing.

Did you manage to get one in nepal? Does it go through europe?

Thanks a lot,

Greets from bali

I can get my L's here which apprantley allows me to ride up to a 250cc, can i ride across asia, the middle east and europe on L's? and if i done the test in oz and from england? (sorry if that sounds confusing)

Thinking of leaving oz in oct/nov 2010 for nepal.
