Cambodia to Thailand on motorbike (Poipet border)

Hi

I tried to enter Thailand via the border next to Paksé - Laos and they refused me because of the vietnamese motorbike. Due to lack of time on my lao visa I'm now in Cambodia.

Do you know if it's possible to cross by motorbike ?
It's a vietnamese, I have to blue card with me, no registration papers.

Thanks a lot !

This is where I gave up, at the crossing from Siam Reap, (there were border tensions at the time) didn't try the coastal border maybe there
I crossed with a Viet bike from Laos into Thailand (north-south) at Vientiane,
but apparently I was lucky.
p.s Here's a trick if you promise not to tell anyone, put a bandage on a limb and tell the border guards you want to go to "good" hospital, it appeals to their nationalism

Thank you for your reply AND the trick ^^

I also asked on the Thorntree forum :
Entering Thailand through Cambodia with a vietnamese motorbike - Lonely Planet travel forum

After all those answers, I won't take my chance (because the border is 150km from Siem Reap, 300km if it doesn't work....) and let the bike in Siem Reap for a month. Next step, find a guesthouse who can keep it

I believe it has been done on a Vietnamese-plated bike, even though I haven´t done it personally (and don´t know how legally, etc).

But I´ve crossed the Poipet-Aranyaprathet border, and I would choose some other place to try that! It seemed like a real ___hole on the Cambodian side, and also the Thai authorities got us stuck there for hours, even though our (Thai-plated) bike´s papers were fine.

The border near Koh Kong might be better, but from Siem Reap, that´s a long detour. There should also be one border crossing (Ban Pakard / Phsa Prum) located some 10-15 kms west from Pailin, and that one seemed pretty quiet & relaxed, though I´ve only crossed it coming from Thailand, and this was already some 5 years ago. I think that´s the one I´d go for!

Thanks for your infos. I guess the next traveller will have to try that because I booked a bus ticket for Bangkok.
I paid 15$ to let the motorbike in a hostel in Siem Reap for a month.

Membership - help keep us going!

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.

You don't have to be a Member to come to an HU meeting, access the website, or ask questions on the HUBB. What you get for your membership contribution is our sincere gratitude, good karma and knowing that you're helping to keep the motorcycle travel dream alive.
