I agree - I've used Progressive for both the bike I bought here last year (as a UK tourist) and my current bike which is UK registered - either way Progressive will insure you/your bike no problems, as long as you have a US address for the paperwork (and technically is the 'base' where the bike is kept).

One other thing, they don't offer monthly policies, only an annual policy - however, you can pay this monthly (eg. via Direct Debt from a US bank account) and cancel it at any time with no penalty...

Result!

This looks perfect Graham!

Sorry to butt in on your post but I have a similar question- to which I have already found half the answer. I'll be buying a bike in El Paso and driving over the border in to Mexico a few days later. Thanks to Graham I've found out how to get insurance for the couple of hours US travel to the border. Once in Mexico / Belize / all other countries in Latin America how do you then go about getting the bike insured for the appropriate country? Can you indeed get it all sorted at the immigration checkpoints?

Hi People, with regard to US insurance for people transiting the US/Canada leg of a north to south or vice versa on a UK registered moto with a UK licence finding a "US base" which is necessary for companies such as Progressive makes the policy as far as I can see nul and void and this would mean that in the case of a accident, worthless. I would be interested to hear from anyone that has used this system and has had the need to make a claim. In addition, how does one contact these companies by e-mail as a required field entry is a zip code. The price charged by companies like Motorcycle express is excessive so how can one get a normal priced insurance without telling porkies? Ride safe.

To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.
