non us citizen buying and registering a bike in SA

As a UK citizen is it possible for me to buy a US registered bike in Argentina or Chile and register is legally in order that I may leave the county.

Ive read all the posts on buying arg reg bikes in BA and chillean bikes in Chile.

I know of two cases of Non US residents selling bikes in Argentina. One of them was Travellingstrom who wrote up how the title was transfered. A Google search should find his website and the write up. I don't know of any non US residents buying a bike.
Sorry I can't be of more help.

Chile

If you buy a bike in Chile which is fairly easy, and you leave for more than 6 mos, and then return - they might confiscate moto at border as Chile changed law that motos have to come back every 6 mos to country, then can leave again..........weird huh

Sorry, I don't mean to nit-pick, but Chile is the country, Chili is something you eat!

speaking of Chili

it was chilly here in the New Mexico desert last night.......

I know you can also buy in Peru, but don't need to return every 6 months, Ecuador too, and I'm pretty sure Colombia. Bikes are more expensive in those countries though, Chile is the cheapest as I remember.

You can get MercoSUr insurance which covers you in most SA countires, the only time I was ever asked for insurance was in Colombia, 4 -5 times in 4 months, might have changed since then.

It is possible to sell a Chilean bike in Peru, but you have to pay baksheesh.
NOT in Colombia don't try.

Zig
