border czeck republic - germany for a french national with a czek bike

Hi,

I'm finally gonna buy one of theses old jawa very soon, but I was wondering about a few paperwork, and the border with germany.

To get it register in france, I don't really need much as I will register it as "vintage bike", and it should be straight forward. But I wonder about papers to go back to france, as I've seen there was a kind of border between germany and czeck republic. So maybee they will check me and make a few problems if all the papers aren't in order.
Can I get get papers to my name in czeck republic easily as a french national?
Do I need theses export plates?
what about this border with germany?
Can I ride on the previous owner papers until France? I hope insurance will be easy to get, but maybe I will need a czeck national to get it on is name, don't you think?

I'd heard about a guy riding an enfield from india back to holland 3 years ago without any papers, he didn't really care about all those papers and did it because he never got caught (borders didn't seems to be a problem in europe then). but what happen if they catch you?

As long as the bike is registered, insured and roadworthy the Germans won't trouble you. The question is:willthe Czechs let you take it out of the country?

All right, but then, is there a way to skip border post between germany and czeck republic? I've seen many small roads on the map, many seems not to have any border post...

I've never cross any border in europe except france spain(without any control of course), that's why I'm wondering so much.

What then if papers (owership and insurance) would still be on the previous owner's name, and not on mine?

I would carry a selling certificate then, but might be hand written, and maybe not very formal, I mean maybe no registeration office stamp... in czeck , and in french... I could do it in german or english as well probably.

It might be a nightmare to get the proper czeck papers to my name, and could take a while as well....

I'll keep you update very soon, 'cause I think I'll take the chance anyway!

I don't have any first-hand knowledge about these small crossings, but since there are still border controls between Czechia and the EU don't count on crossing without being checked.

I suggest you contact a Czech embassy to find out what the rules are. I wouldn't envisage any major problems. Again, German authorities don't care if the bike is in your name or not.
