New Bolivian Visa Requirement for U.S. Citizens

This is really "old" news now, but the following was copied today from the home page of the US Embassy in Bolivia. It has been on their website for a couple months now, after Bolivia announced and many papers around the world first published this story on or about January 8. Since its now March, 2007, has any American encountered Visa requirements entering Bolivia? Any Americans now in Bolivia heard any more on this?

I should be trying to enter Bolivia from Peru in the next month or two so I'm just trying to plan ahead.

New Bolivian Visa Requirement for U.S. Citizens

The Government of Bolivia announced on 8 January 2007 that it will begin requiring visas for all U.S. citizens traveling to Bolivia as tourists as of an unspecified date in March of 2007. At present, neither the U.S. Department of State nor the U.S. Embassy in La Paz has any specific information as to how this policy will be implemented. For more information, please contact the Bolivian Embassy in Washington or your nearest Bolivian Consulate (see :: Embajada de Bolivia en EEUU :: for contact information). If you are in Bolivia, please contact Bolivian Immigration Services at 211-0960. As soon as we receive any further information about the new visa policy we will post it on this website.

=================

And no, I'm not trolling to start another political flame war.

This link might be helpful...

My wife and I are also trying to go to Bolivia via Peru within the next month.(she's an American citizen and I'm a Bolivian citizen) Unfortunately, as of today there are no news regarding any details for the required visas. I have recently called the Bolivian Consulate in Washington D.C., where we reside, but they also have no clue about the details. Good luck!

About as helpful as the U.S. Bolivian Embassy web page, or the referenced Bolivian government web site.

Apparently it's still a possibility...maybe Bolivia's saving it for April 1.
