Murmansk

G'Day blokes and folks,
Will be heading for Nordkapp from Denmark next month, have been in contact with a travel bureau in northern Norway that says I can get a visa to ride my Cagiva to Murmansk.
Great news, but it sounds to easy, anyone out there riden to murmansk before or into Russia for that matter? p.s. I dont have a carnet. Any news welcome- Dingofish

We definitely have heard from travellers who have driven into Russia. See the story onsite by Martin Rooiman (Netherlands), who went via Germany, Czech republic, Slovakia, Ukraine, then ferry to Russia and out via Turkey and through the Middle East.

Hope this helps.

I had the wonderful opportunity to circumnavigate the Baltic Sea in the summer of 2000. Started in Germany, then went north thru Denmark and into Norway. Rode to Nordkapp and the returned south thru Finland and into Russia. Rode to St. Petersburg and then south, transiting Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania and into Poland. Stopped in Prague, CZ before returning to Germany.

Russia is do-able, but not without serious planning. I wouldn't do it alone. St. Petersburg was a wonderful experience and I love the city, but the rest of Russia is tough and not traveler friendly. Very few people outside the major cities speak anything but Russian. Unleaded petrol is unheard of outside St. Petersberg and Moscow. (and really hard to find there too)

I've posted my travel journal and photos at: http://www.geocities.com/TheTropics/...cyclelink.html

Email me and I'd be happy to help you out in any way I can.

Sorry i make so short note to you
but it is the first time on this forum.
Look i am living in Helsinki for the last 10 years. and since then i offraod drive in russia 5 to 6 times a year with our offroad safari club (in-team). Yes it is easy to go to russia, if you do the right paperwork.
first get your visa by travel agency.
the must know how to applied for this
you must say where you like to go to.
this willbe written in your visa
if you applied a visa for murmansk, you only can go to there.
you must have insurrance for the car and insurrance for yourself the (travel agent do this to)

Hi Folks,
Just an update, I did go to Murmansk last summer from Norway.
I got the Russian visa from Kirkennes in north norway and then rode alone to murmansk.
The Australian registration on the cagiva was a good way to amke some interest fro the bored soldiers along the way.
If you need any info drop me an email, I am still in Denmark.
