Welcome to the HUBB

A search of the website (using the terms: Indonesia police customs) turns up 77 hits on this - one I looked at was http://www.horizonsunlimited.com/tst...val/000035.php which gives all the info you should need.

Also I'd recommend re-registering as a new user WITHOUT using an accented character - you'll find as you travel that many keyboards have no easy way to input accented characters. If you wish to keep this id, you can hold down the ALT key, and on the NUMERIC keypad to the right, enter 0232, then release the alt key. The è should then appear. That's the only way I can enter it without going to character map and looking for it.

have fun,

We travelled over 4,000 kms from West Timor to Sumatra and only got pulled over and asked for the permit towards the end. After an hour in the Police Station with some high officials it turned out that you should have one and its not compulsory. If its easily obtained its probably worth picking one up to save hassle.

Hope this helps.

hi,
travelled last year for seven months all over indonesia and was never asked for a permission issued by the police. your are supposed to, as they told me when i entered, but in indonesia, the one policepost doesnt know what the next one is doing. so no worries. you will require a carnet, but i met some guys who couldn't find the customs house, so they skipped the whole procedure and didn't had a stemp, but they had some trouble exporting the bikes. (ps. this only works if you come in via cargoboat at a small place - like melaka to dumai. if you leave the country from a small port like this again, you shouldn't have trouble without carnet.)
enjoy indonesia (i liked sumatra and sulawesi best)
ps. with a little luck you can find a cargoboat maumere?/flores (soory not 100% sure, i am mixing up places, but defenitly flores) to udjung pandang/sulawesi. ask plenty around for a local habour (it's nothing more than a wooden jetty), somwhere a few kms west from this pelnithing)
good luck andi

Membership - help keep us going!

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.

You don't have to be a Member to come to an HU meeting, access the website, or ask questions on the HUBB. What you get for your membership contribution is our sincere gratitude, good karma and knowing that you're helping to keep the motorcycle travel dream alive. Contributing Members and Gold Members do get additional features on the HUBB. Here's a list of all the Member benefits on the HUBB.
