Aussie bike, UK passport...which license??? And P plates.....confused!

Hi

I'm from the UK, but have been living in Sydney the last few years. Planning on riding home to London in a few months.....

I've got an Australian registered bike, have an Australian bike license, but UK passport. Do you think this will cause any issues?

Also, do you think me having P plates (well at least should have!) will cause any issues at borders?

I'm back in the UK for a few weeks soon, so could do my direct access over there and have a full UK bike license. Do you think this will cause issues with an Aussie bike?

Do you think this is a better solution than an Aussie P license?

Would rather not do it in the UK if I don't need to, but will if I have to - i guess having 2 licenses could come in handy?!

No doubt insurance will be straight forward too...but that's a different post!

Thanks for any advice

J

Why not just get an International drivers licence?

You definately need an International D/L, available from RAC or RACV in Australia.

So far licence has been a complete non-issue on my trip. The few times where I was asked for it I showed my German piece of plastic and it gets handed straight back. I have an intl. licence, but have never been asked for it.

Heck, in this part of the world 80% of bike riders don't have a licence. In Thailand kids ride bikes.

Insurance could be an issue when you get to the EU. I don't know how this works these days, back in '89 I got a Green Card from the Turkish AA in Izmir. Having had a crash in TR I recommend buying insurance on entering, if possible.

Just saw this link posted: http://www.horizonsunlimited.com/hub...822#post186855

GC for 22 Euro/month direct from the insurance co., same price as ADAC 2 years ago (same insurance co.).

Get your Pak visa in Nepal, you probably can't get it in India and I don't know what the Iran visa situation is for Uk and Oz citizens.

Good luck,
Peter.

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.
