Mexico, customs

Hi,
has anybody recently tried to leave his/her bike inside Mexico whil exiting and reenterin the country by other means of transportation? Is this possible with the vehicle-stamp in the tourist card?
Officially, you're supposed to have a vihicle up to 6 months inside the country. What, if you have it longer?
Thanks a lot for answers,
Mike

At the US land border crossings, Mexico does not check the tourist cards when leaving the country.

I have always returned my import sticker within the six month time limit, but other I ride with have kept old stickers indefinitely and had no trouble re-entering the country on the same bikes and obtaining new temporary import stickers.

I left my bike in Mexico and crossed the border to Guatemala. I had no paperwork at the border, but just to be on the safer side, I have been in Mexico City at the main customs office and asked for a permit to leave Mexico without the bike. I got it for free in app 2 hours. I would like to point out, that I did not leave my bike for more than 6 months in Mexiko. This may course problems.
