Overstaying EU 90 day limit

Hi All,
Due to circumstances beyond my control I will be forced to stay a week
or two longer in the EU than the 90 day limit, (US citizen) then I will
be riding my KTM East to China.
Would anyone know what's the best way to deal with this. I have until
the 26 July.
Can I get a extension for myself and the bike?
What will happen if I do nothing and cross from Poland to Ukraine.
I'm in the South of Poland at present FWIW

I thought the limit was 90 days in each country- not the whole of the EU. I have been here way too long if you're right and I#m wrong!!

I guess that if you "overstay" in the EU then you simply won't be covered, with all the problems that brings if you have an accident/need to claim etc (and it's illegal, to boot!).As the Ukraine isn't in the EU , your EU insurance is irrelevant and you'll need Ukraine insurance (bought at the border, in my experience of Non-EU Balkan-type insurances).You shouldn't be asked for Proof of Insurance on leaving the EU, but if Polish police do a spot-check and find you're not insured then expect a roasting...

I think he is talking about immigration, not insurance. I wouldn't worry about it - just don't get picked up by the police for anything else. I'm pretty sure most countries don't take details of you leaving - you certainly don't show your passport when leaving the UK. And I can't see why they will care - you will be on the way out if anyone stops you.

Only one issue - if you do get stopped by the police for some other reason, you may not get another visa in the future. I doubt that trying an extension will make sense - if its even possible.

Are you sure about this.. certainly on the ferries I have always had to show my passport, and it is I think part of check in for flights to show passport.

I dont think it will matter much though exiting poland to ukraine. The ukranians will probably want to see your Visa.

Yes, but thats just checking you have one as they are liable if they let you on a plane or ship without one. I have never seen them scan it or write the number down. If you leave the EU by road they don't record the passport. Its actually the same leaving the US - if you don't leave that green waiver form with the airline they don't know you have gone as the passport isn't scanned. I know that because the airline didn't take my form once, so I had to sort it out next time I went over.

Boy, do i feel a Berk, but Visa's are often checked on leaving a country precisely to check if you overstayed and a fine is forthcoming... I'm sure Maxvert will be in touch once he's finished inspecting the shower floortiles, ho ho

Im an american and ive been living in spain for the last 3 years! ive gone back to the USA twice after living in spain for a year. ive also been to morrocco twice and to russia (both outside of the EU).. customs see your american passport and they dont even look at it.. they give you the stamp and your free!

The '90 day rule' is for SCHENGEN countries only ...

Just been down this road (including a 1400km -12hr overnight car trip to Switzerland to save my 13yr old Kiwi goddaughters bacon!) ... so if you're outside Schengen within the 90 days you're OK. Once you're out you shouldn't return for 180 days.

Switzerland will be joining Schengen in November this year!!!

So, you left your god-daughter in CH? Doesn't she need a visa for that as well? Curious...

No we filled up with fuel at midnight & turned around & came back.

She was on a student visa which expired that night & by entering Switzerland we were able to enter a 'grey area' of getting her an extra 90 days as a tourist ... I'd talked to the powers that be in France regarding it and they said she could do this as she already had a 11month visa (but that it was a grey area, but better than overstaying the 11month visa!)
