London to Cape Town

As I have very little understanding of the Carnet I hope someone can help.

My plan is to ride my bike, which I bought in the UK, from London to Cape town and then register the bike in South Africa.

How do I cancel, and get back my deposit, for the carnet once in SA?

Any other advise on this matter would be appreciated.

I guess you´ll have to fax the proof of permanent import, duty paid etc, as new registration paper.
Not sure though,

Matt

ps I agree with the previous chap's comment. will have to supply doc's of import tax paid to RAC.

Ja Kerels so wil ons almal huis toe. (Ons moet maar ons eie forum stig)

Isnt it possible to get insurance as cover for the collateral and when you import the bike there will be no need to get the money back from the RAC.

Have your Carnet issued to exclude the SOuthern African customs zone (SA,Nam,Bot).
That way you'll have your carnet completed at your border of entry and be issued a temporary import permit, which is valid for about 6 months & gives you plenty of time to import your bike.

Hey Guys,

I'm plannign a similar trip to yours, home via the rest of Africa to Cape town. If you havent left already are you able to offer advise on the following points:

1. route to take (i'm in early planning hoping to leave in July)
2. Particualr issues with Visa's on the route suggested (I'm on a SA passport)
3. how you went about applying for the visa's.

Look forward to hearing from you.
