Leaving a car with the customs (central asia)

Hi there,

We're planning some sort of a "round Eurasia by car" trip we'd like to visit China as freely as possible, i.e probably without the car. This would mean leave the car somewhere, going to China by public transport, come back to the car, drive on and at some point cross again through China in a rush with a guide and the car.

At this point the most sensible option for us would be leaving the car in Almaty or Bishkek for up to 2 or even 3 months.

I've seen someone leaving his bike in Baku before, but does anybody have experience with this in central asia?

Thanks for your inputs and happy trails, Seb

If you're using StanTours to help sort out LOI's etc. for some of your Eurasian visas, David will be able to point you in the right direction about the possibility in Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan or possibly Mongolia.

Kazakhstan
I believe you are allowed 6 months temporary import into Kazakhstan before the import duties are levied. They don't stamp anything on your passport about the vehicel

Kyrgyzstan
Same as Kazakhstan and possibly your best option as you can overland into China by taxi.

Mongolia
Save as mentioned above for Kyrgyzstan...BUT the problem is the Mongolian visa for some nationals...Mongolia doesn't have many embassies in the area except for Kazakhstan(good luck finding it...impossible) or China.

David from StanTours would be able to give you more detail about Kazakhstan...
In Mongolia, Campement Oasis....
