Obtaining a Carnet while abroad?

We are a couple of Aussies planning a RTW 3 year trip starting in the Americas then Europe thru the Middle East and Asia. We will not need a carnet for what looks like the first 18 months or so and the question is: can we obtain a carnet for the bike while we are overseas? or is the only way to do this is to get the carnet now here before we leave and renew? Obviously there is a financial interest to get the document when we need it and not before.
Any assistance appreciated.

Cheers

You may get HUBB folks chiming in, but bottom line is:
assuming your bikes are OZ/ QLD (Cairns) rego,
your Carnet must be issued by the home national/ state auto club,
in your case
Carnets | Travel | RACQ
call 07 3361 2352 for more information.

and only RACQ can tell you whether they have a procedure for
applying & issuing a Carnet to you while you & vehicle are overseas, away
from OZ.

good luck

^^ CourtFisher is correct.

Hey Marksgone... when are you planning on hitting Europe-ME-Asia? I'm an Aussie too and I'll be doing that leg April-November 2014. We should keep in touch.

Hi, not sure it helps entirely but I spoke to RAC in UK yesterday with same question for a Brit. They were v helpful and happy to process Carnet while overseas. Will also post date it for when you want it to start and courier it to you wherever you are. Likely RACQ would do same.

Contact Peppina, she is amazing.

I imagine, you will need to prove the bikes worth before you leave AUS. otherwise it is very easy to do while overseas. I get mine replaced or extended yearly and have no problems.

SO, before you leave just get in contact with her and ask your questions. She might even be able to put it all on file before you go so that you can just email her and tell her when you need it. Shes pretty flexible!

I hope this helps.
