Insurance? (ZA, Namibia, Botswana and Zambia)

Hi all, is there anybody who can explain me how does the third party insurance works in the States in the subject? We come from Europe.

As far as I know:
- Namibia: nothing to buy or expose, insurance is paid within the fuel price (coverage cap 750000 N$).
- Botswana: mandatory, to be bought at the border. Coverage?
- Zambia: mandatory, to be bought at the border. Coverage?
- South Africa: mandatory. How to buy? Coverage?

If I buy the insurance in South Africa, do I need to buy also for Botswana, that is in the same customs area (SACU)?

Thank you for the help!

Hey CJS,

The SA'ers can describe in better detail but we bought third party insurance (COMESA yellow card I think it was called) in Nairobi which covered the countries you listed. Didn't go to Zambia, but for Botswana, Namibia, and SA no one ever asked for them at the borders or internally. Did get asked at the border to Malawi. but that is just so that they can force you to buy their insurance which is probably not worth anything. I would still buy the isurance for the countries that you listed though, not that it would provide much in the way of actual coverage, but to allow you to comply if you ever do get pulled over.

Cheers.:)
