Insurance in turkey for foreing motorcycles

Hi,

For those looking for insurance in Turkey for your foreign motorcycle, here is some info.

I got into Turkey from Cesme border and no insurance company there would make insurance for my European motorcycle.

I had to contact HDI Sigorta insurance office located at the Ipsala border between Greece and Turkey.

These are the contact details in case anyone has the same problem in the future:

Bahadir
verimsigorta22@hotmail.com
0544 858 0210

He did the insurance for me on the phone. I only needed a Turkish debit/credit card to pay. 100TL for 3 months insurance.

Cheers
Angel

how did you get a turkish credit or debit card? Doesn't that require a turkish bank account?

Overland Tonka, can you elaborate on why Euro insurance will cover you there according to the link? It seems to only list prices for Green Card insurance covering other countries if bought in Turkey, if I understood correctly?

Reason I'm asking is I will cross from Chios to Cesme in September for few days in Turkey and will likely to have same issue with the insurance (unless I can get a green card from my insurer here in Ireland).

You need to make sure that the Turkey option on the green card isn't crossed out. Some countries are not enabled automatically but you have to ask they be included.

My Irish (well they're UK in fact, as located in N.I.) insurer told me no way they'll cover me in Turkey, or any of the countries outside of the standard coverage limit (even for money). They won't give me a Green Card either since they couldn't cover me beyond Croatia and up to there its not required anyway.
Which means I'm only covered as far as Croatia, and will need to sort out Montenegro, Albania, possibly BiH (if they ask for this in the Neum corridor) and Turkey on the border. Not looking forward to this as apparently there are no insurance booths in Cesme where I'll arrive, but people say the border guard can call his mate to come over and sell me an insurance.

I think I paid 55.00 USD for 1 month (Sept 2015) at the border crossing Malko Tarnovo (Bulgaria). I think you could have paid 50 euro, or the equivalent in Turkish Lira. I can not remember if they accepted Bulgarian money.

Ah ok, so it might be close to a going rate and I might not have been ripped off too much. For some reason I was expecting something closer to 100 Liras..
