Temporary Import Harley to US for Sturgis

I`m hoping to ship my Wideglyde to Long Beach so I can take in Sturgis and a few other things during August. So far I have learned that I can import the bike and do Customs clearance myself at Long Beach. My problem at the moment is finding a Long Beach Company to receive the bike, hold it till I arrive, store my crate for one month and then assist me to export it back to NZ.
Next problem is arranging liability insurance. I sent paperwork to Motorcycle Express several weeks ago but so far no response and now I can`t access their web-site - are they still alive?
Would appreciate any advice.

Your problem is the "hold it till I arive" bit. Basicly if I understand correctly - clearing customs for you and then storing the bike for you ... that will be expensive. It is much cheaper if you are there when this is done. And mush less risk for the clearence people - anything illegal is your problem .. they don't get involved if any illeage drugs (for example) are found ...

Having said all that ... what time frame are you talking about? If it is less than a week I would not talk to them about it ... a sudden delay is much better - they will cope with that ... but asking them to plan for it adds too much to the work load? Just see if you can find someonme to act as your agent in clearing the bike first, storage latter?

Personaly I'd avoid the storage thing .. you'll find stuff to do while you wait for teh bike to clear.

Membership - help keep us going!

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.

You don't have to be a Member to come to an HU meeting, access the website, or ask questions on the HUBB. What you get for your membership contribution is our sincere gratitude, good karma and knowing that you're helping to keep the motorcycle travel dream alive. Contributing Members and Gold Members do get additional features on the HUBB. Here's a list of all the Member benefits on the HUBB.
