Insurance for the United States
 

Can I get a short time (10 days) insurance for the United States at the border (entering from Mexico) ?
In all the Hubb and Bulletin board I have found answers about insurances for nearly everywhere on the world, but not for this "easy" border from Mexico into the United States :-)
All travellers, who I have met, are on the way north to south or have plenty of time for the USA and Canada to take an insurance from Germany, which I know is expensive for a time less than 2 month (it starts with 2 month of duration).
Can someone answer my really easy question ?

The question for me is, can I cross the border into the United States and pay then the insurance in the next bank or at the border directly ?
I am already in Mexico and I have lost my credit card, therefore I have to pay cash.
