Insurance for Europe

Hi allA friend and I are travelling across Europe to Poland next June. We both have BMWs which are covered under BMW assistance. We both have our personal effects covered under home insurance. We don't need cancellation insurance since our only financial commitment is £44 each for ferry crossings. I guess we'll need E111s; it's a long time since I've travelled in Europe. Do we need to take out insurance for medical repatriation, since that seems to me to be the only thing missing from our existing cover?CheersGeoff

Get proper medical insurance

The E111 (now EHIC) only provides a bare minimum of cover on a reciprocal basis plus you may need to foot (at least some of) the bill, of which some may be reclaimable and some isn't. In some countries it is assumed that your family (which you won't have in that country) will support you in hospital for at least some things that you might consider essentials.

EHIC is not intended to be a replacement for medical insurance.

Decent medical/travel insurance isn't actually that expensive, especially if you get an annual policy. Just make sure it covers riding a bike of the size that you're using. Some have a nasty habit of saying that riding is covered in the headline summary of cover and then limiting cover in the small print to riding a 'small' (e.g. <125cc) bike.
