Insurance for all Asia
In case of traffic-accident and I have to pay for others I need insurance, not only for one country, but for all asian countries together. In Germany it is called "Haftpflichtversicherung" (with Green Card for all Europe), in France they call it "Responsibilite civile".
Who knows?

Not available and in most countries not needed. Where a country does require third party cover they will make you buy it upon entry.

I took out TP in India, but was told by other travellers that it wouldn't pay anyway, so was a waste of time and money.

In any case most of the damage you can cause with a bike you will be able to pay for out of your pocket. Just don't hurt or kill anybody, in some countries the locals will try to lynch you on the spot. As a driver you are always at fault in their eyes. Apparently, this is even the case in Anatolian villages!

hello

on my trip, just in case something really bad happened, it may help, i had an insurance for "responsabilite civile", valid around the world.
you can contact them at :

it is a french specialiazed company but they may speak english
tell them exactly what you need.

i forgot ...

the cost was around 30 euros per year

this insurance "responsabilite civile" in french or "third party" in english is valid in any country around the world for the whole time of the contract, one year.

and, most important, it covers the motorbike risk.

Blimey, I didn't think such a thing existed!

If I understand the website correctly it's an insurance broker, so the policy you get may be with another co. They also do health insurance, repatriation, etc. Could be interesting, particularly since they say they cover anybody outside their country of residence.

Note that having this policy doesn't mean you don't need to take out local third party cover where it's required (they say so on their site).

Could be interesting! I'll get them to give us a quote.

thank you both for answer. i will try that french insurance "responsibilite civile" and only can hope, that their conditions are different than from german insurances, where motor-/traffic risk is strictly separated from other (not motor-traffic) responsibility risks/insurances ("third party-risks").

By the way: why can I get in Germany / Europe motor insurances for Afrika, South- (and North-) America, maybe also for Australia, but not for Asia ?
My Green Card for example is guilty only in West-Russia, but not behind Ural mountains; very curious.

Hi, I do not think that your 3rd party insurance will be accepted in Australia. They will make you get a local one. And just to confuse the issue each state is different and I have heard that while each states insurance will cover you all over Australia if you are a local they dont if you are on an overseas registered bike.
Only time that would be a problem is if you need it as there are no border controls and/or checks. And highly unlikly that the police would ask to see your insurance paperwork if they happened to pull you over.
There is some info on it on the Australia section of this Bulletin Board.
It is cheap and easy to purchase local 3rd party insurance in Malaysia and Thailand. Dearer in Singapore. Not needed in Cambodia Nepal or India.

Sorry sorry …

I called this insurance again to make really sure
1- If you hurt someone or damage something while you’re on your bike, you re not covered, which means that the motorbike risk is not covered.
2- If you hurt someone or damage something while you’re not on your bike, you re covered.
3- this insurance is valid around the world for the lenght of the contract, which is one year

Contact them directly for more precise info, i was just a customer and i m not a specialist of insurance :-)

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love.
