Hi all, need some advice if there is anyone who can help.
problem, - want to travel around europe for 5-6 months on UK registered bike.
best I can get insurance coverage is for 60 days from uk insurer.
tried the german green card option only to be informed as a bike is registered in european union country I can't have it!
someone out there must have spent more than 60 days in europe on a uk bike!

Most of the time its just an insurance company trying to ring more money out of you.

If you have insurance from any EU country you are covered for the legal minimum insurance that is required in the EU country you are visiting. That may only be third party injury insurance.

Most companies will renew/issue Green Cards over the phone if you use your credit card to pay for it, go for 60 days, then renew for another 60 and so on. You can just write onto the green card the extended dates, the original will be sent to your UK address so you can produce it if necessary at a later date.

Be sparing with information that you give the insurer, dont say "I'm in Gibralter and need to extend my green card". "I'm just about to head off on another trip and need to get a green card" is more appropriate.

Take a look at these people, they give 365 days European cover included and the rates are pretty good.

eBike Insurance - Welcome to eBike Insurance

I live in Spain but insure the bike in UK and have had no problems with them, but then again I have never made a claim!

I use ebike myself, the 365-day euro cover was the primary reason for choosing it for my 14-weeks chugging around the EU (the non-EU Balkan countries i visited meant buying insurances at the borders - pretty expensive in places!).Only negatives using ebike is getting general info from them via email (they don't answer), but their site faq's generally cover most enquiries, to be fair... Oh yes, they're great value, too!:thumbup1:

I did a trip around Europe on my own bike and managed to get fully comprehensive insurance from Carole Nash. The cost was pretty reasonable too

My bikes are covered through Carole Nash; fully comp in nearly all of Europe. I think cover is only 3rd party in Croatia, Iceland, Liechtenstein, Norway & Switzerland. 3rd party for Morocco.
