India: ATA carnet or CdP?

We are going to India this summer. 20 feet container will start journey in June 17th and should arrive to Delhi in start of August. I asked my forwarder about documents I should provide for custom to put the bikes on the road in India. I was sure we need CdP but they contacted to their branch in India and told me that ATA carnet is enough.
Do you have ANY experience with this carnet?

We don't ship bikes individually, we ship them together as a company and there is some questions who should be on carnet. Company or bike owner?

ATA carnet is much cheaper, but it is not important. We want to avoid problems with India custom office...

Can anybody help?

As far as I'm aware (and this is from research, not experience), and ATA carnet only covers certain possessions, e.g. expensive luggage. I have never heard of anything other than India requiring a carnet de passages. I don't think there's any way around it.

Maybe you could contact a shipping agent in India, or an Indian embassy / high comission.

Hi,

an ATA carnet is not sufficient for vehicles! You need an CdP!
An ATA carnet is for goods which come temporarily into the country for exhibitions. (Formula1 teams sometimes use them as well.)

Hope this helps.
