Importation of bikes in Australia
Hi Everyone
I have just started the process of putting Australian plates on the bike. Australian Customs were more than happy for me to extend my carnet for another year but as I now have a 4 year visa I decided against this. So, I have applied for an imported vehicle licence and it all seems pretty straight forward. All I have to do to pay the carnet out is pay the sales tax on the bike. As I foolishly forgot to tell my mother to de-value the bike on my 2nd carnet it's comming in at 4k sterling. However Customs have assured me if I get a local book price as at Aug 99 - when the bike arrived - they will work the sales tax on that - very accomodating. So, if you want more info let me know.
