How to store your bike 365 days in uruguay

This in good information to share:
If you want to leave you bike and go back to your country in argentina maximum time given by the customs is 8 months but in uruguay is 1 year. but if you go from buenos aires to montevideo by ferry its only 90 days, you have to enter to uruguay by paysandu or salto to get the permission for one year..

haaha , That's funny you post this now! Certainly what you say is true and I found out the hard way after crossing with the ferry! Indeed only 90 days is given at the ferry but I understand that all the road ports will give 1 year (from Brazil also).

If someone is looking to store their moto in Uru, Kevin Lemes is the fellow to help with that. (lemes54@hotmail.com) . Kevin lives in Montevideo and is a real nice guy. If you need any work done on the bike his father has a great shop with a few mechanics (also real nice people) and they will help out.

My KLR is nestled in there right now waiting to be ridden home in a year.

365 days granted via BA-Uruguay ferry today

Someone is watching over us after I read this tonight I just looked at the "Temp entry form" issued today and it is valid 365. Funny thing is we have yet to show any proof of insurance. Transit was by ferry from BA to Colonia

It's funny how variable things can be. After a lengthy discussion in the main Aduana office in downtown Montivideo I was told deffintly that only road ports would give 365 days and had to ride out of he country and come back in to get it .... lol
As for insurance, I did have to produce my "insurance" document (enough said) when I came back in and 4 people looked it over before deciding that it was acceptable . I guess it depends on who is working that day!

Membership - help keep us going!

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.

You don't have to be a Member to come to an HU meeting, access the website, or ask questions on the HUBB. What you get for your membership contribution is our sincere gratitude, good karma and knowing that you're helping to keep the motorcycle travel dream alive. Contributing Members and Gold Members do get additional features on the HUBB. Here's a list of all the Member benefits on the HUBB.
