How do I use the SECOND Carnet?
 

Hi there,

just got my second carnet on this trip and am confused:

From the HUBB I learned that I just stamp out my old Carnet in the first Country (here: Pakistan) and get the second Carnet stamped in the second country (Iran). Sounds easy.

But my first Carnet is valid until 14.11. while the validitz of the second begins only on the 15th. So one of the officers would have to stamp a Carnet not (yet) valid?

How is it done?

Hmm, :eek2: ... sleep with the officer.

I mean, maybe you can stay in between the borders one night, or when it's a 24h border it will not be a real problem.

Usually you don,t cross the border to "change carnets". You just go to the customs-office (in a big town should be one) and they will do the rest (stamp out carnet 1 and stamp in carnet 2)

If you realy want to cross the border on that date.... I would not worrie to much. Most custom-oficers don't even know what it is, so they will not know about date's etc...
If they do... just explain it. Most customs officers are friendly and helpfull and if the taftan-crew is still the same as a few years ago (and they probably are) they will have no problem.... probably ask you to stay for dinner (which I did).
