Guinness rules for distance records?
I'm leaving in a few days to do a coast to coast, then Mexico to Canada ride, and I see from the Iron Butt site that no one has ever documented more than 1650 miles on a Harley in 24 hrs. I plan to exceed that but I can't afford the 250 bucks Guinness wants for a "fast track" answer as to what they will require to call it a record. I know there are no guarantees, but I'm wondering if anyone out there has a list of rules that Guinness has employed for a similar situation, so that I might adhere to them if possible, and perhaps have a chance of having them accept my record after the fact. Obviously, I will be acquiring documentation to meet Iron Butt criteria, but I've heard and read crazy things like gas capacity limitations, and having to dip my feet in the oceans at both shores for coast to coast records (how would one document that?), etc.
