Green card or insurance in Iran

Is green card or 3rd party ins. compulsory in Iran? I entered Iran via train from Turkey and currently in Tehran, do I need to worry about the police stopping me and asking for green card?

Hi Alexpezzi,
Not sure what the legal standing is, but i got insurance
when i crossed over from Turkey at boarder, but met other
travellers in Iran and they where travelling with out it
Bloody money is still the big thing even with insurance was
still warned $20,000 per life.
As for the cops never once asked for licence or insurance
and spent two fantastic months in Iran, love the place...
enjoy

I also bought insurance at (or rather, just past) the border when I entered from Turkey. It was about £40 I think and covered me for a month. As someone said on another thread said recently, whether it's legally required or not (I think it is) I personally wouldn't want to be without it. If only because as a foreigner you might find you are found liable for an accident even if it wasn't your fault (reckon you could argue your position in court in Farsi?) and without insurance might end up in prison for a looonnngg time depending on the seriousness of the accident. Also, worth thinking that if you do kill a breadwinner, third party insurance would help compensate the family.

Matt :)

Insurance in Iran

Hi - I travelled through Iran last year and the only document I was asked for, and then only at entry and exit, was my carnet.

Hope you are having a good time - it is a great country,

Cheers,

Honesy.
