German Export Plates

Having just met a fellow at the HUBB meeting in Ripley I thought I sound a warning here:

If you register a bike on export plates in Germany for a long trip get them for one year!

The man had bought a new BMW and the dealer had kindly helped him arrange plates for one month. He is now riding without rego and insurance, cause they have expired. The bike is not allowed back into Germany (haveing been exported) and the rego can't be extended.

Export plates are available for a max. of one year. If your trip is longer these are not an option on their own, you need to register the bike later elsewhere.
