from US on Australian bike

I'm from California and I'm trying to rtw on a bike I bought in Australia. Does anyone know of any problems I might have traveling on a foreign plate with expired registration?

I can't register the bike to my home address without it being there. There's ways around that but I'm trying not to go that way.

Depends how obvious the expired rego is. If it is written in the papers in plain English a border official might pick it up.

I did the same with my NZ reg'd bike some years ago. Simply peeled the rego sticker off the plates of bike and trailer and nobody could tell.

Thanks, I think it'll be a pain in the butt. In Australia, the registration comes on a plate you bolt to the bike or plate with a big number of the year. No problem taking that plate off, but the paperwork will be expired. Although that might be obscured in the photocopy of the paperwork I'll have.

I'm trying to get it registered legally in California but since the police want to see it in person, that might be hard. Asking a friend of my sister.

Surely California is the worst place on earth to register a vehicle with the need for EVAP and emissions control systems?

California is pretty bad for registering a vehicle as far as emissions goes. They're strict and they sell crappy fuel.

I'm in Sydney right now. Just completed a lap round Australia. I'll be at the Phillip Island Classic races at the weekend of Jan 29-30 and then back to Melbourne. I'll call you up Alec but I'll be without a bike while mine is shipped to Christchurch.
