Foreign vehicle entering Singapore take note!!
 

I have manage to find some info for you guys who wish to visit Singapore and how the paperwork should be done.
though it might be much more troublesome compare to neighbouring countries like M'sia or Thailand. hope this can ease the red tape qns.

Here is some information for motorists who wish to import their foreign-registered vehicles into Singapore via Air, Sea or through West Malaysia:



Obtain the required documents before you drive your vehicle here. Please make sure you have enough Singapore currency to buy an Autopass card.

Please note that:

Only passenger vehicles making round trips for private use are allowed.

Armoured vehicles, Camper Vans, Caravan trailers, mini-buses with cooking and sleeping facilities and left-hand drive vehicles are not allowed into Singapore.




Upon your arrival at the point of importation in Singapore Checkpoint, get clearance by the Singapore Customs and Excise Department (CED) with your vehicle's registration certificate, Customs document and passport.

Visit Automobile Association of Singapore (AAS) to apply for an International Circulation Permit (ICP) with Customs document.



Import via Sea or Air

If you have imported your car via sea or air, produce your ICP, Insurance Certificate, and Customs document to Customs at point of importation to collect your vehicle.


If you intend to travel to West Malaysia via Singapore Checkpoints, purchase an Autopass Card at Land Transport Authortiy Office at 10 Sin Ming Drive, Singapore 575701. tel: +65 1800 - 2255 582



Import via West Malaysia

At the Singapore checkpoint, produce your passport, vehicle's registration certificate and Malaysian insurance certificate (if you intend to return via West Malaysia) for your vehicle at the VEP/Toll office, at the secondary clearance area of the checkpoint.

At the VEP/Toll office, you can purchase vehicle insurance (available to Asean member- country-registered vehicles only) covering your period of stay in Singapore and an Autopass Card for your vehicle.

An Autopass Card is issued at a cost of S$10 (which includes a non-refundable card cost of S$6 and a pre-loaded cash value of S$4).

Please note that only Singapore currencies will be accepted for payment.

Your vehicle must leave Singapore before the expiry of ICP. No extension of stay beyond 90 days is allowed.


Proof of export like Customs Outward Permit or Bill of Lading must be produced to confirm the departure of the vehicle.




Document Checklist

Vehicle Registration Certificate (an English translated version is required). The registration status of your vehicle must be valid at the point of its export.

Customs Document issued by member of Alliance Internationale De Tourisme Carnet de Passages en Douane in the country where your vehicle is registered.

Vehicle Insurance purchased from a Singapore-based insurance company to cover the period of stay in Singapore. Motorists departing from and re-entering West Malaysia by land also have to purchase insurance covering your entire period of stay in Malaysia.

International Circulation Permit (ICP) to your vehicle from Automobile Association of Singapore (AAS). The ICP is issued at a processing cost of S$10.50 (inclusive of 5% GST). The ICP is valid for a maximum period of 90 days. You can apply for an ICP from AAS on weekdays from 8.30 am to 5.30 pm, or Saturdays from 8.30 am to 1pm. As such, we would advise that you plan your arrival schedule appropriately to avoid any inconvenience.

Good info. When I arrived at the border in October 2002, I had to learn the hard way. I had all the documents mentioned above, and needed the ones available at the AAS. Since you can't drive your own vehicle there, you must call a taxi, which sets your back about US$50. The taxi took me to a banking machine to get Sing. currency, then to the AAS, then back to the border. The whole procedure could take from two to four hours. Before entering Sing., fill up on the Malaysian side of the causeway. Gas is much cheaper there. Also note sign at exit point from Sing.: Your fuel tank must be at least three quarters full when leaving, or else you will have to pay a stiff fine. Real sticks-in-the mud, the boys in charge of Singapore. So beware and take care.
