lots of threads on the subject

Girag seems the most popular, last I heard was 900 for bike to Bogota, not sure about Cartagena...

why not take the boat...if the Stahlratte is running it's now 820 for bike and rider and it's a nice trip...worth the 3 days...docks at Cartagena.

more info

hey Zig, do you have more info on the Stahiratte? All the info I have come across it seems they want you to buy into the concept of affordable boat travel. I am not interested in that. I just want to ship me and the bike to Columbia. Once.

Thanks if you have more concrete info.

After reading this last post, I Googled using the search term "stahlratte." The first five or six results were for stahlratte.org pages, one click away from their October schedule between Carti and Catagena. Also prominently featured: various phone numbers in Panama and Colombia. The next several search results were private blogs describing trips on the Stahlratte between Carti and Cartagena. I'm puzzled. What more do you want?

Another approach: search this site. Many dozens of us (minimum) have taken the Stahlratte, and there are references sprinkled liberally all over the HUBB.

Hope that helps.

cheapest way

there are some links for really cheap ways using smugglers boats here and i think on advrider....but to get to cartagena or bogota there's no magic bullet, people have searched and searched and the 800-900 flight for bike and another 200-300 for rider OR taking a boat for 820 now for both, is really all there is.

take the cruise, be a tourist for 3 days, tranquilo..................

Not popular, just the only option. If there was any other freight company, I'd say use it.

They don't do Cartagena, but do offer a Medellin (IIRC) option (once per week).

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.
