Finishing up trip
 

Hi guys
Spot of advice needed. After six months of riding from Melbourne to Bangkok and then through Cambodia and Laos in the next two im going to end my trip early due to some family problems.

I have an Australian registered Honda CD250u currently here with me in Cambodia plus a Carnet with another six months on it. Does anybody have any advice on the cheapest way to wrap up all the paperwork?

Am I better off importing the bike to either Thailand, Laos or Cambodia and selling it or shipping back to Australia? Thailand and Cambodia don't require a carnet, so I can end that easily.

I'd contact the issuing AA, and ask about the release of bond, if the vehicle does not return home. Sent my bike home by sea in -08, and at least here the AA flat out refused to do anything with the bond, until I had the stamps from Finnish customs on the last page (certificate of location), that proved the vehicle had returned to Finland. Even though I had proper exit stamps from all carnet countries, that it had entered.

Dunno if this was just BS, that only happens here, or if it is a more common practice. I was surprised about that.

I imported a old car into Iran (donated it to the Customs for auction, actually), got an exit stamp in my carnet, gave the carnet back to RACE (issuer in Spain) and got the money back.

The logic says this should be the case: all stamps right (entry & exit), no need to worry, HOWEVER, as pecha mentions, not always the case. Look carefully at this thread, and maybe ask Daniel:
