Am I Forgetting Anything For Russia & The EU?

I will be traveling across Russia and some of the EU countries this summer (East to West) and have the following documents, etc.

Passport
Russian Visa
International Driving Permit
Idaho Drivers License
Motorcycle Title and Registration
Bill of Lading for the motorcycle

I know I will have to obtain upon arrival in Russia:

Customs delcaration
Migration permit
Letter of intention
Vehicle permit or registration
Vehicle liability insurance

For the EU I have pre-purchased green card liability insurance.

Does anyone know of anything else I will need in the way of documents, permits, insurance, etc.? I will have the originals and multiple copies of all paperwork.

Thanks for any info.

hey Mike, you're finally starting?

The upper list is quite complete I'd say. Afaik you only need the bill of lading to get your bike out of the warehouse at the port.

Just two important things:
- Take care for the expiration date of the customs declaration!!! I've received several letters from russian customs during the last few months. I entered russia in Murmansk, left my bike longer than permitted in russia, tried to left russia in vladik, paid a penalty fee, thought it's ok. But when I came back, the murmansk customs didn't receive a notification that I have taken my bike out of the country. So they sent me letter after letter, and I accused me of being some sort of criminal Because I want to go back to Russia, I had to organize somebody who spoke russian and could help me writing them back. I'm still in progress of getting a confirmation that the murmansk guys withdrew the accusal :-)

- Scan all your documents and upload them to an internet server, e.g. briefcase.yahoo.com

Greetings and good luck

Marco

Yes Marco, I've finally started - sort of. The first leg of the trip didn't amount to much, just riding from home here in Idaho to Seattle, where the bike was loaded on an ocean freighter for Vladivostok, via LA, and Busan, S. Korea. I fly to Vladivostok leaving August 6.

Thanks for the input, it's much appreciated as is the information you've provided earlier.

Madmarco,
Thats a top idea re: scanning and downloading documents!
I don't know how practical this is (being a total computer buffoon!), or wether it would be worth it in an effort/return way, but how about a section of this website where people can send in scans of examples of documents required for the entry/exit etc of various countries so people know what they are looking for. I'm not suggesting people print off the examples and use them illegally if they find themselves in a part of the world without the proper documentation ;-) but it might prove a useful source of info!
Just an idea!

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.
