Extending the expiry date of carnets
 

Hi all,
I've recently bought a bike in SA and ridden it up to Kenya where I've left it with a friend. I used a carnet issued by the RAC and basically gave up hope of recieving the deposit back because I never imported the South African registered bike into Kenya. Now I'm planning on going on another trip maybe back down to SA but the problem is that my carnet runs out in April and I'll be leaving in June. Does anyone know if theres any way of extending the expiry date of a carnet and if so how much extra does it cost and how long is it possible to extend. Thanks very much for any help,

Hello,

From other travellers I heard that the max extension period is 3 months (dont pin me down on this), usually its far easier to have a new carnet issued and then have it dhl'ed to yourself. Now its just a matter of turning up at the border before expiry of the old en up with the new one on the border ahead.
