entering EU and leaving US registered bike ther (?)

Hi all,
i am shipping my bike from US to Germany, plan to ride it for a month or so and store at my friends place untill my next trip accross the pond, i am not sure about the following:

1- Can i fly back to the US without the bike being shipped back?
2- can i use US registered bike in EU for longer than 6 month?

thanks a million,

andei.

Hi,
You can use the bike there and leave it as you don´t need a carnet for EU. I´ve imported a couple of US registered bikes into the EU. In NL there was no mention of re-exportation time limits. In France they said that it had to be out of the Union within six months. I´m not sure if they can track it if imported into one and exported from another. I had a Triumph in the EU for more than 18 months as I was working in several different countries and there was no problem when I shipped out to NZ (only got problems when I arrived in NZ, but that´s another story)

Pity this post has been ignored for so long...

To answer your questions, if you are still with us:

1. Yes.
2. Legally no, practically yes. For the law to catch up with you you would need to take up residence somewhere and even then it's unlikely. As a traveller you will be fine.
