duplicate title
 

I plan on going to Mexico but have lost the original title to my bike. I have a DMV issued duplicate with the VIN which is acceptable in the US. Does anyone know if I will have problems entering Mexico?

Latin American bureaucracy is one of the great mysteries of mankind. It all depends on the mood of the official you are dealing with. A guy I was travelling with left his title at home in New York and made it all the way to Panama on a photocopy. He tried to get it shipped to us in Mexico, but it got lost in postal space somewhere. He did have to pay a $40 bribe to enter Costa Rica though. I think if you have a government issued, official looking document you will be OK, but no one can promise.

Six of us crossed into Mexico a couple of weeks ago. No one was asked for title, just reg.
