drivers license different to registration document and crossing borders?
Hi- just about to leave on a 9 month trip to central and south America and when I went to renew my BC drivers license so it is valid throughout my trip(6 months before it was due as is required here). I was told I could not renew my license as I no longer hold a work permit for Canada. So I am back on my Australian license, though my registration documents don’t match- e.g address, license number. Annoyingly I changed address in BC too and my proper address card on the back of the license has been lost so that license address doesn’t match the paperwork either… as I am no longer in BC I cannot get this changed- nor when I call them will they send me one as my work permit has expired… Dose anyone know if this will be a problem? And if so- what can I do? I was going to try and make a new card for the back of the license with my right address and use the two licenses to talk my way through the borders…?

G'day Hewby,

I wouldn't worry about it too much. I've driven all around the world on my Australian licence, as long as it's valid to ride a motorcycle is what counts. Most of the countries you will be going through only want to see that the name is the same on each of the documents. People move and change address that's a fact of life.

I am now getting international drivers licences for both the Canadian and the australian licences sent to a friend who will meet me in mexico, (as is discovered its mandatory to drive without the international D/L in Columbia?).... and have doctored a replacement address change for my canadian card, for my international drivers licence now... so hoping with all this I can talk my way through anything....
heart is beating faster as I tick off the hours before leaving.... as you might be able to tell- I am not highly organised with my paperwork

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.

You don't have to be a Member to come to an HU meeting, access the website, or ask questions on the HUBB.
