carnet du passage for eastern europe

Hi everybody,

I planned a trip trough georgia, armenia and nagorno karabakh, then so sadly for them war has come in georgia, so now I have to arrange a B plan.

One of the ipothesis would be a journey trough eastern europe, so I was wondering if I would need carnet du passage for the motorcyle (or if there are any other particular documents to be taken under consideration) for the following countries: slovenia, hungary, romania, moldova and ukraine.
Probably thousands of people have already asked and answered to this question, sorry for that.....

thank you so much,
have a nice day,
Vieri

Vieri,
Slovenia, Hungary and Romania are EU members, so you can move there freely. It is however always advised to carry a Green card from your insurance company, valid for the time of your ride, with the correct bike listed and valid for the countries you plan to travel in. (My green card this year lists both MD and UA, it didn't last year).

A carnet should not be neccessary in Europe. The requirements should be the same for all EU citizens, but to be sure check the websites of your Automobile club (aci.it) and/or your foreign ministry.

Hope this helps.

Hi Vieri,

I can confirm that you don't need a carnet for any of the countries you mentioned. When crossing into Ukraine, they will write you bike's registration number in your passport -that's it. For Moldova you'll have to pay for the "environmental" paperwork, but that's about it.

I hope this helps!

Membership - help keep us going!

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.

You don't have to be a Member to come to an HU meeting, access the website, or ask questions on the HUBB. What you get for your membership contribution is our sincere gratitude, good karma and knowing that you're helping to keep the motorcycle travel dream alive. Contributing Members and Gold Members do get additional features on the HUBB. Here's a list of all the Member benefits on the HUBB.
