CBT license & doc requirements for border crossings across SE Asia OK?
 

Hi, i am from the UK & planning to start a motorbike trip in hanoi, Vietnam early 2013 and work across to Thailand via Laos or Cambodia and i am wondering what you need to show at the borders to cross... i will have a full UK driving license, CBT motorbike license and International driving license, will have motorbike registration docs (not in my name) + UK based insurance (iwill be buying the bike on arrival).

I realise through research many people say the CBT license isn't enough for Vietnam, though i am not sure about the other countries but my main concern is being able to cross the borders... can anyone who knows or has done border crossing with a motorbike advise me?

Did you manage to find the answers to your questions at all wixtravel? I have hired bikes in all of those countries without having to show a license, but that was 10 years ago and things might have changed, especially when it comes to crossing borders. It sounds like a great trip, the ride from Hanoi to Ho chi Minh is, I have to say, very good indeed. Good luck.
